Özet (EN)
After the Russian Revolution in the 20th century, soviet art and culture undergo major transformations and developments. The state expected the composers of the period to have their works of art within an ideological framework. The opera "The Nose" (original in Cyrillic HOC pronounced as Nos) stands out as an important work that reflects Shostakovich's artistic experience and struggle during this period. In this study, the opera "The Nose" by the famous composer Dmitri Shostakovich was examined and analyzed in detail in the period of the Russian Revolution and Soviet cultural policies. In the study, firstly, the before and after of the Russian Revolution, its main lines and basic events were discussed, and the effects of the revolution on culture and art and more importantly on the studies in this field were investigated. This research will help us understand the place of Shostakovich's music in the soviet cultural policies shaped after the Russian Revolution. In the last part of the study, Shostakovich's artistic works, his contributions to 20th century music and the value he created were discussed in detail, and his own anti-opera, The Nose, was included. By discussing the process of composing the opera, its content and staging processes, the main points highlighted by the thesis include how Shostakovich tried to find an artistic expression under political pressures, how his work was evaluated by the Soviet administration, and how musical and dramatic elements were reflected in Soviet cultural policies. The opera The Nose was not only a musical masterpiece, but also a reflection of the political era, pushing the boundaries and emphasizing the value of freedom of expression in Soviet Russia. This dissertation aimed to understand the complex relationship between art and politics and to evaluate Shostakovich's work in a broader cultural context.
