Abstract (EN)

Design is the process of deciding the product that has suitable components anda functions based on expectations. The greatest responsibility for the designer is to decide the cheapest and the most appropriate product by combining the most appropriate technologies. Nature provides the best examples when it comes to finding the best solution to the design problems.In this study, systematic product design methods are researched. A new approach is proposed to the systematic design methods which can help the designer. The proposed method is named as bio inspired systematic design. Contribution of the new method to the design process is observed on a sample. As a source of inspiration vine plant (Vitis Vinifera) is used. The remarkable mechanical properties of the plant were investigated to find a novel design solution. In this context, tensile tests were applied to the tendrils of vine. Also, tendrils cross section properties were analyzed. The information obtained from vine?s mechanical properties transformed into innovative design solutions in a case study. It was concluded that, proposed method helps designer to find innovative design solutions.
