Occupational health and safety risk analysis in natural gas sector: case of Çorum province

Natural gas is a kind of flammable gas mixture derived from fossil fuels in the earth's crust. Today, it is frequently used in homes and industry as an important energy source. The use of natural gas is regulated by certain laws and regulations. Precautions have been taken for the risks that may arise in the service places for the businesses and employees related to the natural gas transmission and distribution business. The aim of this thesis research is to carry out risk analysis related to occupational health and safety of natural gas services. In order to achieve this aim, the risk analysis of the notifications in the years 2019-2022 submitted to Çorum Gaz A.Ş. has been made and the relationship between the types of notifications and the severity levels of the notifications has been tested. Fine-Kinney risk analysis method was used in risk analysis. Simple compatibility analysis was performed with SPSS statistical program for the relationship between notification types and notification severity level. According to the findings, the degree of risk was revealed and necessary regulatory/preventive recommendations were made. According to the risk scores obtained as a result of the risk analysis, it has been observed that there are very high, high and important risks. As a result of the regulatory/preventive recommendations, it was determined that there was a 64.4% decrease in the average risk score in 2019, a 64.9% decrease in the average risk score in 2020, and a 71.2% decrease in the average risk score in 2021. The relationship between the types of notices and the severity of the notices was examined in the form of autumn-winter and spring-summer periods according to the intensity of natural gas use, and it was determined that the relationship between the types of notice and the severity of the notice did not change according to the season.
