Abstract (EN)
The Eastern Mediterranean has attracted attention with its commercial, economic and geopolitical location and has become an important focal point for the countries of the region as well as all the countries of the world. In terms of energy resources, it has become a competitive area due to natural gas, fossil fuel and hydrocarbon riches, and serious struggles are being waged between influential countries in the region. In addition to its underground resources, it also has serious importance in terms of maritime trade. Considering the political developments in the Arab world that have started since December 2010, it causes strategic moves and tensions in the regional and global arena, including the countries bordering the Eastern Mediterranean and the European countries in the background. The geographical location of the region is very important for Turkey. Turkey is taking steps in political, economic and commercial issues among the countries in the region, and is trying to take on a more active role and increase its share in the region by preserving its geopolitical position in the region. Especially recently, it supports this strategy with the agreements made with Egypt, the most similar country in the region with its religious, sectarian and ethnic diversity. Considering geopolitical points such as the Eastern Mediterranean, Libya and common points such as maritime routes, the normalization of relations between Turkey and Egypt, which have common civilization, culture and geographical proximity in the past, will serve the common interests of both parties.
