Abstract (EN)
Virtual Reality Model for Eastern Blacksea Architectural Archive This study is a computer simulation model aiming documentation and dissemination of the historic architectural objects on internet. There is a very large architectural documents' archive in the Department of Architecture of Karadeniz Technical University (Trabzon, Türkiye). The documents consist of variety of building types and ornaments from Eastern Blacksea Region of Turkey (samples are from such cities as Trabzon, Rize, Giresun, Ordu, Artvin, Gümüşhane). An information system is developed for the above mentioned archive with this study. 3-Dimensional models of buildings are created with VRML and variety of animation techniques, graphics effects are added to the models. The URL address of the Eastern Blacksea - Virtual Architectural Archive is: http://www.dkma.ktu.edu.tr Besides 3-D model such multimedia effects as sound, video view, text all together are effective way of teaching and learning. Once the 3-D model of buildings are transformed into the electronic environment, third persons can reach and manipulate these information very fast and easily comparing to traditional methods. Such further studies as 'distance learning' over internet would complete this study. For example 'virtual design studio' classes that is integrated with CAD classes would be considered as distance learning. This thesis consists of six chapters. First chapter includes the purpose of the study, definition of the problem and hypotheses, method of the study, literature review, short definitions of the terminology. The second chapter is the application of the method and there are classification of existing documents, creation of simulation model's interface, limits of softwares and hardwares. 3-D models of the selected buildings are introduced in this chapter. In the third chapter, there is comparisons of the simulation model's positive and negative aspects. Besides practical benefits of the created simulation model, comparisons with other simulation models are also included in this chapter. The fourth chapter gives the results of this study from academic, practice, preservation and promotional point of view. The fifth chapter gives some further proposals for researchers.Key Words: Architecture, Virtual Reality, Internet, Computer Aided Design, CAD, Archive, Visual Model, Simulation, Multimedia
