Abstract (EN)

TECHNOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF ORIENTAL BEECH (Fagus orientalis Lipsky.) WOOD The aim of this study is to investigate some physical and mechanical properties of oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky.) wood. Therefore, 19 trees were selected and cut to make the experiments from native distribution areas of oriental beech. âs physical properties, width of annual rings and rate of latewood in annual rings, specific gravity in oven-dry and air-dry, values of density in volume and shrinkage of wood were determined, and as mechanical properties, compression strength parallel to the grain, static bending strength, modulus of elasticity, strength in tension parallel and perpendicular to the grain, shear strength, cleavage strength and values of Brinell-hardness. Furthermore, homogenous groups among trees and areas for width of annual rings and specific gravity were found. Relations between mechanical and specific gravity were statistically determined. VIII
