Abstract (EN)
Objective: The cross-sectional and descriptive research was conducted at the publicly owned obstetrics clinics and centers in Aydın and Muğla city centers in order to examine the views of nurses, midwives and doctors working at these centers on mother-friendly practices. Method: The research was completed with subjects of 105 nurses, midwives and doctors working at publicly owned hospitals in Muğla and Aydın city centers from September- October 2014 chosen with improbable sampling. The data of the research was collected from nurses, midwives and doctors with personal information forms containing questions about their informative characteristics and opinions on natural birth and also mother-friendly childbirth initiative opinion forms. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, variance analysis, t-test, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis H and Bonferroni Corrected Mann Whitney-U tests. For all the analyses a significance level of 0.05 was accepted. Results: The age average of the nurses, midwives and doctors within the research scope was 39,23±7,60, their work time in the obstetrics field 11,29±8,48 years, %92,1 of the participants were women and %41,0 of them were bachelors level graduates. %75,2 of the participants knew the description of natural birth %79,0 of them stated that natural birth is not practiced in our country. The women's lack of education on natural birth practices, the mother-to-be's fear of natural birth pain, and lack of appropriate physical conditions are cited as the reasons why there is a lack of natural birth practices in our country. The participants' mother-friendly birth opinion score average is 54,00±7,15 (range:36-66). The professionals who work at ADÜ, bachelor level graduates and midwife/nurse's opinion scores have been found higher than those statistically not significant. Conclusion: The research has found that the nurses, midwives and doctors's opinions on mother-friendly practices are positive. The nurses, midwives and doctors's positive opinion on mother-friendly birth practices is important for them to be accepted, become more widespread, for the mother-friendly practices to be developed, and therefore contribute to the improvement of mother and baby's health.
