Objective: Stent implantation in congenital heart diseases (CHD) has been shown to be feasible, however, there are few reports examining outcomes of the procedure. This study aimed to evaluate early and medium-term follow-up results of stent implantation for CHD in our instution. Patients and method: Records for all patients having undergone intravascular stent implantation for CHD between January 2011 and December 2015 were reviewed and 75 patients were included in the study. Demographic and clinical data, procedural details and outcomes were analysed retrospectively. A homogenous analysis was planned to perform on the findings classified according to the main group of the pathologies. Results: Stents were implanted in the pulmonary artery stenosis in 17 patients, in the aortic coarctation area in 14 patients, in the supravalvular aorta in 1 patient, in the right ventricle-pulmonary artery conduit in 12 patients, in the cavopulmonary anastomosis stricture in 12 patients, in the patent ductus arteriosus in 7 patients, in the Blalock-Taussig shunt in 7 patients, in the systemic venous stricture in 1 patient, in the interatrial septum in 1 patient and in the major aortico-pulmonary collateral artery in 3 patients. Complications included iliac artery damage, limited dissection and stent migration. No mortality related to the procedure was seen. Conclusion: Intravascular stent implantation is a minimally invasive, safe and effective alternative treatment to surgery with a lower mortality and morbidity rate.
