A study on the level of reading skills of 9th grade students (Sampling of central Gümüşhane)

The purpose of this research is to determine according to Turkısh Language and Literature Teachers the level of reading skills of 9th grade students who attend to central high school in Gümüşhane. In this research, 32 Turkısh Language and Literature teachers who tells lessons to the 9 th grade students in different central high school such as three Anatolia, one science, six occupational and one general were attended. Questıonnaire and speaking task was applied to the teachers. We aimed to use the qualitative search method which defends the reality can be changed according to the different situations. The most important results we obtained from this research are that the reading skills level of students are not enough,especially students do not know how to use their voice,body language, the time of stress and tone. Also from results of questionnaire , teachers said that the level of books is not according to the students, books do not take attention of students, students have difficulty in understanding the text, texts are over the level of students, the type of high school changes the understanding and reading level of students,also the yearly plan is dense.
