Abstract (EN)

Tatoo, whose history based on the history of mankind, is still widely used today. There were some cases in which the tattoo inks used in order to apply tattoo had various toxic effects following tattoo application and phototoxic effects were reported after exposure to sunlight. No studies about whether tattoo inks have phototoxic effect have been found. In this study, the phototoxicity of blue, red and black colors of the most commonly used three different tattoo ink brands have been examined by performing in vitro 3T3 NRU phototoxic test. Balb/c 3T3 cells have been used in the study. The test results have been evaluated with PHOTOTOX program. It is observed that according to the 3T3 NRU test, the tattoo inks are non-phototoxic. The results must be verified by different phototoxicity tests. Key Words: Phototoxicity, in vitro phototoxicity, 3T3 NRU phototoxicity test, tattoo ink, Balb/c 3T3 cells
