The change of meaning in Dr. Muhammed Hasan Cebel's dictionary "El-mu'cemu-l İştikaki el-Muassil li Alfaz el-Kur'an el Kerim"

The researchers have focused on semantic development. Semantic development is the focal point of modern semantic science, which results from successive changes that determine the meaning. Meaning is the purpose of language studies. This study aims to examine the aspects of semantic meaning development according to the three phenomena described by modern scientists, which are represented with customization (allocation), generalization (circular), and transmission (succession). Additionally, this study aims to shed light on the works of Dr. Muhammed Hassan Cebel, an exceptional researcher who did not receive sufficient attention except very little research. There is no previous study on the dictionary of Muhammad Hassan Cebel. Particularly the practical side of this study is based primarily on the large and chief Arabic vocabulary and dictionaries. The reason for this is the determination of words, revealing the evolution of the meaning in the transition from one period to the other, as well as to determine the evidence and opposing views on this issue and to focus on the dictionaries that Cebel agrees or opposes in the presentation of words and their semantic development. - After examining some examples of semantic development in the etymological dictionary, we obtained the following results: - The semantic narrowing is a linguistic necessity that emerges as a result of the needs of modern social life. - The semantic word circle had expanded; people moved away, forgetting the old meaning, which resulted in the spread of the new denotation. - In semantic transfer, the meaning is not narrowed or diffused as in the two previous cases.
