The methods of payment in foreign trade, the problems confronting companies in practice and the reasons underlying preference on payment method according to the location of trade: The case of Bursa

World economy has faced a constant growth and expansion with globalization phenomena. World countries, borders of which have been removed, completely wiped out the concepts of covered market and closed economies and international trade has become the most significant dynamic of economy. In this context, methods of payment in international trade and its practice are of great importance in terms of international trade operations. The study has been conducted to companies performing in large industrial areas in Bursa which is the second in the perfomance of Turkey's export volume. In the study, the problems in the field confronted by the companies about methods of payment in international trade, payment preferences depending on trade areas and their reasons of use are tried to be identified. The study has aimed to research on types of payment methods frequently used by importer and/or exporter companies and the reason why importer companies prefer to use cash against goods which is not reliable at this position. Depending on the chosen continents and countries, the use of payment method and the reasons of use are tried to be analyzed. In Letter of Credit, the most important payment method in terms of reliability and implamentation phases, it has been tried to scrutinize the knowledge of companies on the issue and on which aspects they have experienced reserve interruption during the Letter of Credit work flow.In Consequences and Propositions part of the thesis, findings on data gained during the study have been explained in detail.
