Determination of medicinal plants sold in herbalists and bazaars of Duhok city(Iraq)

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out between the years 2009-2012 in Duhok Province (Northern Iraq). In this study, the uses of some native and cultivated plants in alternative medicine and the systematics of these plants were attempted to determine. As a result of the study, 49 taxa belonging to 46 genera and 27 familia were determined. From these 49 taxa, 2 taxa belong to Coniferophyta division, 1 taxon belongs to Pteridophyta division and the remaining 46 taxa belong to Magnoliophyta division. In this context, families existing in the region and possessing utmost number of taxa are Rosaceae with 5 taxa, Fabaceae and Lamiaceae with 4 taxa, Apiaceae, Asteraceae, Cucurbitaceae and Poaceae with 3 taxa, respectively. Identified taxa's systematics, habitats, flowering times and some ethnobotanical features like local names and the use in alternative medicine was given.
