Düstûr-nâme (Enverî) (Introduction-linguistic analysis-critical text-grammatical index-facsimile)

This study, prepared as a doctoral thesis, examines Enverî's mathnawi, titled Düstûr-nâme, completed in 869/1465. Written in the period of Old Anatolian Turkish in the name of Mahmûd Pasha (d. 878/1474), grand vizier of Mehmed II (the Conqueror) (d. 886/1481), the work is one of the earliest examples of Ottoman historiography. It is valuable not only for its historical significance but also for its linguistic and literary merits. The author divided the work into 22 chapters, which essentially consist of three main sections. The first main section, comprising the first 17 chapters, covers the period from the creation of the world to the rise of the Mongols. This section is a poetic translation into Turkish of the work Nizam al-Tawarikh, written in Persian by Baydawi (d. 685/1286). The 18th chapter, which is the most voluminous and constitutes the second main section, is a unique source describing the history of the Aydinids and the conquests of Umur Bey. The third main section, covering chapters 19-22, is an Ottoman chronicle that starts with Süleymân Khan, nicknamed "Oğuz", born from the marriage of Iyâz, a companion of Prophet Muhammed (pbuh), and Turunç Khatun, the daughter of the Khan of Turkistan, Tümen Khan. It also includes the conquests of Mehmed the Conqueror, the works he built, and the conquests contributed by Mahmûd Pasha, and the architectural works he commissioned. This thesis touches upon the author's life, his works, the literary and historical value of this work, its manuscripts, studies conducted on the work, and the reasons for the need for a new study. It examines the spelling and linguistic features of the manuscripts. Based on the existing copies, a 3699-verse transcription and critical text has been created, and three separate indexes have been prepared based on the text: a grammatical index, a personal names index, and a place names index. Facsimiles of the manuscripts found in the Izmir National Library and the National Library of France are included. For some entries in the grammatical index, references from the MetinAmbarı rhyming database have also been included.
