The effect of emotional freedom techniques and music listening on pain and anxiety experienced during intrauterine device insertion

Aim: The research was conducted to determine the effect of EFT and music listening on pain and anxiety experienced during IUD insertion. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted as a pretest-posttest control group experimental study. The population of the study consisted of women who applied to Şırnak State Hospital obstetrics and gynecology polyclinics between June 1-October 15 2024 with a request for IUD application. The sample of the study consisted of 56 EFT, 57 music and 59 control group, totaling 172 women. Data were collected using the Participant Introduction Form, STAI, VAS and SUD. Women in the EFT group received a single EFT session before IUD application, the music group listened to music during the procedure and the control group had no intervention. Post-test data were collected within 10 minutes. Results: In the study, the mean scores of the STAI and VAS posttest scores of the women in the EFT and music groups were found to be lower than the control group (p<0.001). In the study, it was determined that there was a statistically significant decrease in the mean post-test SUD score of the women in the EFT group compared to the pre-test (p<0.001). In addition, it was determined that the satisfaction scores of the women in the EFT and music groups were significantly higher than the control group (p<0.001). Conclusion: In the study, it was found that EFT and music were effective practices in reducing pain and anxiety experienced during IUD insertion and increasing satisfaction.
