Adaptation to Turkish language and validity- reliability study of the emotional eating scale

This study aims to examine the validity and reliability of the Emotional Eating Scale developed by Arnow, Kenardy and Agras (1995) on a sample group selected from the community sample. The sample of the study consists of 416 participants who are over 18 years, literate and living in Mersin, Diyarbakır and Adana. Reliability of Emotional Eating Scale; test-retest reliability and Cronbach's alpha-internal consistency coefficient were examined and the validity was examined by criterion-related validity and content validity methods. The correlation coefficients between the first application and the application after two weeks were calculated as .61 for Anger sub-dimension, .65 for Anxiety sub-dimension and 58 for Depression sub-dimension. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, the scale was found to have a 3-factor structure in accordance with the original. These factors are named as Depression, Anxiety and Anger in accordance with the original scale. For the dimensions of the scale, Cronbach alpha coefficients were calculated and Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficients of all dimensions were higher than .70. Finally, there was a positive and statistically significant relationship between the emotional eating subscale of the Eating Behavior Scale, Emotional Eating Scale and emotional eating subscale of the Eating Behavior Scale. This is a result of the findings obtained from the study Arnow, Kenardy and Agrasen (1995) is seen by the developed and the measurement of emotional eating Turkish version of Emotional Eating Scale consists of 25 items as a valid and reliable instrument can be used in Turkey sample.
