Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, effects of the shrouding length and rotational speed on the windage power losses of a spur gear in two-phase media (air-oil) are investigated. Computational fluid dynamic methods are used for investigating these effects. In order to modelling and calculating CFD++ commercial software is used. AutoCAD software is used for designing the gear and Pointwise software is used for generating meshs. The numerical model is applied for 3-D domain. Maximum number of cell is used for meshing the domain as much as copmutational power can solve. The spur gear geometry is selected from the literatüre and has already had numerical and experimental data, for reliability of the numerical model and validation. Only one tooth was modeled to reduce the calculation time of the simulations and made the simulations in the tooth space more detailed. Four different shrouding configurations are used for investigating the effect of the shrouding length on the windage power losses. In these configurations, axial shrouding length is 3.6 mm and radial shrouding length changes between 3.6 mm to 14.4 mm. Also, four different rotational speed values are used as 400 rad/s, 500 rad/s, 600 rad/s and 700 rad/s in order to investigate the effect of the rotational speed on the windage power losses. In addition, effect of the two-phase media on the windage power losses according to single-phase is investigated. Eulerian Dispersed Phase (EDP) model is used for describing the second phase in CFD++. Simulations became more realistic with using different particle diameter values for oil particles. Five different particle diameter values are applied which depeds between 2 μm and 10 μm. Rosin-Rammler distribution function is used for specifying the ratio of the each particle, which has different particle diameter, volume in total oil volume.
