Investigation of problem solving skills, participation motivation and competition concerns of E-sports players

The aim of this research is to determine the participation motivations, competition concerns and problem solving skills of the participants aged between 18-55 (n=300) who are interested in e-sports, whose age is = 23.2±4.41; In addition, to examine the relationship between problem solving skills and motivation to participate. In addition, it is to examine the relationship between problem solving skills and competition anxiety, and the relationship between participation motivation and competition anxiety levels. Data collection tools used in the study; The demographic information form created by the researchers is Motivation to Participate in E-sports, Competition State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2) and Problem Solving Skills Inventory (PSI). In the research, the data were collected via Google Form and after the data were organized in the SPSS 20 program, the analyzes were carried out using the Jamovi 1.6.23 program. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the demographic characteristics of e-sports players. Correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between e-sports players' motivation to participate, competition state anxiety levels and problem solving skills. Considering the findings of the research, it is seen that as the motivation of participation of individuals interested in e-sports increases, their competition state anxiety also increases positively. In addition, although the relationship between motivation to participate and problem solving skills is not significant, it has been determined by the statistical results that there is a negative correlation between them. However, no relationship was found between competition anxiety and problem solving skills. As a result, as e-sports players' motivation to participate increases, their competition anxiety scores also increase. However, in the study conducted, a negative relationship was found between participation motivation and problem solving skills, but there was no significant relationship. No relationship was found between competition anxiety and problem solving skills.
