Effect of parent supported school readiness programme on preschool children's school readiness

The aim of this research is to investigate the effects of "Parent Supported School Readiness Programme" on preschool children's school readiness. The sample of the research is composed of 76 children who were taking preschool education during the education year of 2014-2015. In this research, "pretest posttest control group quasi-experimental design" is used to determine the mentioned effect. The data of the research was obtained by using the scale of "Marmara readiness to primary education" and general information form which was prepared to get demographic data of the participants. Within this research, firstly, pretests were applied to the participants by using the "Marmara Scale of School Readiness for Primary Education". Afterwards, during 8 weeks period of time, "Parent Supported School Readiness Programme" was applied to the experiment groups. Before applying the program, parents were well-informed about the process in a meeting organization. The programme is sent to the parents as weekly activity booklets and the applications of parents are checked by weekly evaluation forms. The parents who did not apply the activities are excluded from the sample group. After 8-weeks of activity application, posttests are applied to all sample group and the obtained data is analyzed by using SPSS 18 package program. As a result of independent groups t-test, no significant difference is found out between the pretest scores of the experiment group and the control group. This result indicates that the readiness level of experiment group and the control group are equal. To analyze the posttest scores of the experiment group and control group, ANCOVA was used. End of the analysis, there was a significant difference between posttest scores of experimental and control groups in the favor of experimental group at the .05 significance level. The findings of this research indicate that "The Program of Parent Supported Preparation for Elementary-School" is effective on school readiness of children.
