Abstract (EN)
Following the death of Prophet Muhammad in 632, the Islamic world was governed first by the Rashidun Caliphs and then by the Umayyads (661-750). However, opposition against the Umayyad State grew increasingly strong, eventually leading to its downfall and the establishment of the Abbasid Caliphate. Named after Abbas, the uncle of Prophet Muhammad, the Abbasids marked a pivotal turning point in Islamic history, bringing significant changes in political, administrative, military, and intellectual fields. As the Abbasids lost their administrative power, various emirs began to act autonomously, forming dynasties. The Hamdanids are among the most notable of these emirate dynasties. The Hamdanid commander Abu Firas was a prominent poet nurtured in the court of an emir like Sayf al-Dawla, a patron of knowledge and arts, during a period rich with great scholars, famous poets, and scribes. Abu Firas's shorter poems, odes, and verses containing wise sayings are noteworthy. His fame primarily derives from "Rūmiyyāt," a work composed during his captivity in Byzantium. This study focuses on Abu Firas al-Hamdani and his poetry. The life, literary and political persona, and poetry of Abu Firas al-Hamdani have been classified and analyzed in this work.
