Abstract (EN)

In our thesis about the political life and family life of the Azerbaijani İndependence Leader Abulfaz Elchibey from his childhood years until his death, we also discussed the vital dynamics that shaped him as a statesman, an ideologist and a democrat. We aimed to draw a portrait of Elchibey by evaluating his character, family life, social environment and friendships he has established, in the process of examining both his life and his struggle. Elchibey, who started to be interested in the changes that Azerbaijan went through in the historical process since childhood, learned the past of Azerbaijan which was divided into Russian and Persian rule, and build its future. Elchibey, who started to fight for the independence of Northern Azerbaijan under the rule of USSR from his youth years, has indexed his next target to Southern Azerbaijan under the Iranian rule. The real focus point of Elchibey, who spent a lifetime for the independence and integrity of Azerbaijan, has always been the Turkish Union idea. Elchibey, who was elected as the President of Azerbaijan after the success of the independence movement he led in Northern Azerbajan, restructed Azerbaijan as an independent Turkish Republic in a short period of time. He awakened the consciousness of Turkishness, which the USSR and İran put into dying sleep, both in Northern Azerbaijan and Southern Azerbaijan, never to fall asleep again. Elchibey, who defended the indispensability of democracy, adhered to the principle of modernity in all the revolutions he realized, and cleansed Azerbaijan from the outdated intellectual handcuffs left by the USSR. Keywords: Elchibey, family, Northern Azerbaijan, Southern Azerbaijan, Turkish.
