Pharmacopoeia studies on ginger samples purchased from pharmacies and herbalists

As we know the presence of historical and the present usage of Zingiber officinale Roscoe (ginger) and the presence of many scientific study reports which support this knowledge, make ginger a non-drug treatment agent. Especially in the case of use in pregnancy and in specific patient groups, unless the reliability is fully demonstrated, people must be careful even avoid from using ginger. In addition, consideration should be given to the ability to meet the quality and criteria of consumed herbal products for the possibility of embedding and grinding. As a result of this, in this master thesis, the samples which were taken from pharmacies and herbalists were investigated experimentally for their compliance with European Pharmacopoeia 7.0. The results have proved once again the credibility of the pharmacy for the sales of such products. In addition, literature review and data collection were made on the major activities of Zingiber officinale Roscoe like anti-emetic, anti-oxidant and ameliorative activities and such many other activities that were scientific data proved. Teratogenicity and toxicity issues have been particularly investigated since ginger, which has a positive effect on liver values in diabetic conditions, is most commonly encountered with nausea and vomiting disorders, most often in post-operative cases and during pregnancy. The findings which were obtained from laboratory studies were collected either photographed or written, and the aim was to contribute to the pharmaceutical literature together with the collected data.
