The effects of structural features on applied geomorphology between Edirne-Hamzabeyli-Kalkansöğüt

This study includes northwestern part of the Thrace Peninsula in Turkey borders, which is covers about 512 km2 and lies between the triangle of Edirne-Hamzabeyli-Kalkansöğüt. The main aim of this study is to investigate the effects of structural features on applied geomorphology throughout study area. In order to achieve this goal, at first; structural features of the study area were analyzed. Then, in order to obtain the understanding of existing effects of structural features on formation and development of landforms, morphometric analysis and field measurements were performed. Field works includes; measurements of strike, dip direction and dip angle features of stratums with Brunton Type Geological Compass and measurements of thickness of stratums with suitable tape measure. For big portion of the office work related the study, Arcgis 10.2 was used. In addition; Global Mapper 18, RockWorks 16, CorelDraw X7, Geomatica 2015 and GeoRose programs have been used as secondary programs throughout the study. Thus, structural features of study area were defined, mapped and photographed. At that point of the study, effects of the structural features on applied geomorphology, evaluated in various subjects like water management, physical planning, natural hazard risk evaluation, structure-settlement relationship, structure-agricultural activity realationship and structure-transportation lines relationship. Consequently, it has been concluded that different parts of the study area have different structural features both lithologically and tectonically, and structural features have effected organization and development of drainage systems. Also it has been seen that different structural features have controlled and have orientated features of applied geomorphology and with changing characteristics of structural features, applied geomorphology features have changed as well parallelly.
