Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of flipped classroom and gamified flipped classroom on 7th grade EFL students' grammar achievement, learner autonomy, and achievement emotions. To achieve this, a mixed-methods approach is employed, combining grammar achievement test, learner autonomy scale, achievement emotions questionnaire, the researcher's diary and students' diaries, and semi-structured interview questions. The data were obtained from 83 7th grade participants, including 30 students in the gamified flipped classroom, 25 students in the flipped classroom, and 28 students in traditional instruction who study at a secondary school in the 2023-2024 academic year. The findings of the study reveal that there is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores of all the participants (p < 0.005), but there is no significant difference between the pre-test, the post-test, and retention test scores of the groups (p> 0.005). There is a significant difference between the pre-test and the retention test scores of the students in the gamified flipped classroom in terms of grammar achievement test (p<0.005). There is no significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores and of all the participants in terms of learner autonomy (p> 0.005). The students have different rankings of achievement emotions, but the difference is not significant. Furthermore, the qualitative data of the study reveal that although both experimental group students stated positive aspects of learning outcomes and benefits of the process, the students in the gamified flipped classroom have more overall satisfaction and more positive views about benefits of the instructional model.
