Examination and comparison of sebilürreşad and i̇ctihad magazines in terms of education (religious education)

Sebîlürreşâd and İctihad closely witnessed important political and social events from the 2nd Constitutional Era to the first years of the Republic. Magazines had a wide range of publications, distinguished writers and a large readership. Sebîlürreşâd stood out with its Islamist identity, and İctihad with its Westernist identity. Since religious education is a field that concerns the individual and society, the writers of the magazines had drawn a philosophical and intellectual perspective in this direction, as in other fields. Thus, religious education with its formal and informal aspects took its place in Sebîlürreşâd and İctihad. In the history of religious education research, in the scope of magazine publishing, since it is seen that more readings have been made on Sebîlürreşâd regarding the 2nd Constitutional Era, and that no comparative study has been conducted on the İctihad, it is possible to look at the religious education problems of the period from a wider perspective with this study. In the research, documentation method, content analysis and monograph creation methods were used in the determination of religious education essay and articles in journals. With this study, it is seen that two magazines with different ideologies had more similar views on religious education and put forward ideas and theses that were partially distant from each other.
