Undergraduate educational students' views on multiculturalism and multicultural education

This study has been prepared based on multiculturalism and multicultural education. Multiculturalism is to ensure the survival of cultures rather than accepting diversity and placing them under one specific culture. Multicultural education, on the other hand, is a process by which students give importance to the cultural diversity without denial of them and continue their education in an equal environment providing the students opportunities of receiving their education in equal settings. Multicultural education is an educational reform movement in a process. Multicultural education defenses the students to experience inequality of opportunities due to their race, ethnicity, and social class differences. Accordingly, related literature was scanned and literature has been created. This study aims to investigate the views of graduate students of education faculties in Istanbul about multiculturalism and multicultural education. In this context, whether there are any differences about the views of the participants in terms of variables including gender, ethnicity, private / public universities and social class was investigated. The study used a qualitative research method and employed frequency analysis, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallisto were used to analyze the obtained data. A questionnaire was developed to collect data in this study. Pilot tests were conducted to ensure the validity and reliability of the analyses. The questionnaire, added to the related literature, received 947 feedbacks from the participants. Based on the results, the participants' views about multiculturalism and multicultural education were found positive. The section in the third part of the questionnaire showing the properties of a scale was divided into 3 factors: results of multicultural education, effects of bachelor degree on multicultural education and education and justice.
