Investigation of the relationship between the attitude of the faculty of education students towards premarital relations and their parents' child rearing attitude

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the attitude of the faculty of education students towards premarital relations and their parents' child rearing attitudes. It is examined whether the relationship between the attitudes of the faculty of education students towards premarital relations and their parents' child-rearing attitudes differs according to gender, age, department of study and the working status of the mother. Relational survey model was used in the research. The sample of the study consists of 440 faculty of education students, 306 women and 134 men, selected by random sampling method from various universities. "Pre-Marriage Relations Assessment Scale" developed by Kalkan and Kaya (2007), "Parent Attitude Scale" developed by Kuzgun (1972) and "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher were used as data collection tools. SPSS package program was used for the analysis of the data. In order to determine whether the data are suitable for parametric techniques, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was performed, and it was observed that the data were not distributed normally. Therefore, non-parametric analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. Mann Whitney-U test, Kruskal Wallis test and Spearman Correlation Analysis were used to examine the research problem and sub-problems. According to the findings of the study, when parents' child rearing attitudes of faculty of education students were examined with all its dimensions, it was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between the attitudes towards premarital relations and child rearing attitudes. The results show that the more democratic behaviors of parents, the happier individuals are in their attitudes towards premarital relationships, and they have more positive thoughts about premarital relationships. Accordingly, the effect of the attitudes of mothers and fathers on the attitudes of the faculty of education students towards premarital relations is put into consideration.
