Abstract (EN)

In this study, the applicability of mossand boricacids olution as a natural impregnation agentanditseffects on thephysicaland mechanical properties of Scots pine (Pinussylvestris) and chestnut (Castaneasativa) wood were investigated. In this experimental study, solutions wer eprepared at concentrations of 0.75%, 0.80%, and 0.85% bycombiningmoss extract with boron derivatives. These solutions werea pplied tothe specimen susingthe dipping methodfor exposure durations of 30 minutes, 6 hours, and 24 hours. After thetreatment, there tention level, air-drydensity, oven-drydensity, bending strength, compressivestrengthparalleltothefibers, andmodulus of elasticity of thespecimensweredetermined. The study revealed that impregnation had significant effects on the density, retention, bending strength, and modulus of elasticity of the wood. Air-dry density value sranged between 0.32–0.72 g/cm³, whileoven-dry densityvaluesvariedbetween 0.30–0.68 g/cm³. Retention values were measured between 10.59–125.51 kg/m³, showing variations depending on thespecies, solution concentration, and treatment duration. Bending strength result sranged from 15.29 to 80.52 N/mm², within creases observe dundercertain species and treatment conditions, where as decreases occurred in others. Themodulus of elasticityranged between 1570.97–10,541.63 N/mm² and also varied depending on the concentration and treatment duration. Overall, it was determinedthatimpregnationapplicationsmayeitherenhanceorreducethephysicalandmechanicalproperties of wood, withth emagnitudeand direction of this effect largely shaped by the combinedin fluence of wood species, solution concentration, and treatmentduration.
