Bibliometric analysis of graduate thesis on economic growth

Abstract (EN)

This study is a bibliometric analysis of the postgraduate theses on economic growth in the National Thesis Centre of the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education in order to see the relationship with other variables (economic, social, political, cultural), to present a general view of these postgraduate theses and to provide information about the state of the literature for future studies on this subject and to show the research tendency. For this purpose, 1484 postgraduate (master's-doctoral) theses were evaluated. The bibliometric characteristics of the postgraduate theses on economic growth were analysed according to "types, years, supervisor titles, universities, institutes, languages, fields, subjects, research method, university type, permitted/unpermitted status, country/country group" and quantitative data on the subject were obtained and a general view was presented. The data obtained by using documentary screening and bibliometric analysis method were analysed with SPSS software and the frequency (f) and percentage (%) values of the results obtained were presented in tables. Accordingly, it was determined that 1250 of the 1484 theses determined between 1989-2022 were master's theses and 234 were doctoral theses and 1432 theses were authorised and 52 were unauthorised. It was determined that the most thesis was written in 2019 (286) and the least thesis was written in 2001 (1); studies were conducted in 136 universities; the most theses were written in Istanbul University (84); the most theses were written in the Institute of Social Sciences (1284). It was found that the most commonly used research method was Time Series Analysis (741); theses were written in 21 different fields and the most studies were conducted in the field of economics; macroeconomic variables (397) were the most associated with economic growth and the sample in these theses was Turkey. It was also concluded that 1285 theses were written in state universities and 147 theses were written in foundation universities. Keywords: Economic Growth, Bibliometric Analysis, Graduate Theses
