Abstract (EN)
This study deals with the contributions of Abu al-Monzir el-Avtaby to Arabic Phonology, lexicology and grammar with his work "al-Ibana fi'l-lugati'l-Arabiyyah". Avtebi, born in the Avteb village of the Suhar province in Oman, but the exact date of his birth is unknown but most likely he died around 511/1118 in Oman. He was a prominent figure of his time in various fields of knowledge, including jurisprudence, history, genealogy, and Arabic language and literature. Avtebi's work, el-Ibanah, is one of the most significant works in the Arabic language and rhetoric written in the fifth century AH for its rich content. The work encompasses various aspects of language, including phonetics, morphology, and syntax, as well as interpretation, hadith, recitation, proverbs, and poetry. Avtebi extensively discusses language topics in el-Ibane by mentioning the opinions of different scholars. In order to determine the meaning, he supports the mentioned words with various Arabic poems. It is frequently observed in his work that he transitions from one topic to another. In el-Ibanah, Avtebi makes use of not only the Qur'an and hadith for inference but also Arabic poetry and proverbs. The work is written in alphabetical order for ease of use, with a detailed examination of the meanings of each letter followed by a discussion of various terms starting with that letter. During the examination of these terms, he also touches upon phonetic, morphological, syntactic, recitation differences, and rhetorical intricacies. The author chose the name el-İbâne for this book because it contains the characteristic of being extremely clear and explanatory in all aspects. The question of whether el-İbâne is an encyclopedic work or a dictionary-type work has led to debates among researchers, but the researchers of el-İbâne prefer the view that it is an encyclopedic work prepared in alphabetical order. Although Avtebi wrote his work in alphabetical order, he did not always adhere to this order. The work appeals to readers in all aspects and particularly stands as a rich source in terms of its philological content.
