Abstract (EN)

There are many structural and functional asymmetries in the human brain. The relationship between cognitive behavioral abilities and serebral asymmetry has been studied for many years. Hand and eye preference are examples of behavioral lateralization. The preference of hand and eye may affect the size of the motor cortical region occupied by spesific muscle. In this study, the relationship between the preferred hand-dominant eye and gray-white matter volumes carried out. People between the ages of 18-65 who had a volumetric brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) were included to the study voluntarily. Before MRI scans, the Edinburgh hand preference questionnaire and hole-in-the card test carried out. People with any condition that may change the total intracranial volume such as tumor, trauma, cyst and may change monocular vision such as amblyopia and strabismus were excluded from the study. MR T1 images were converted to niftii format and volumetric calculations were performed via VolBrain application. There is a significant difference between the measurements of the volumes of the hemisphere, WM, lobus frontalis, lobus temporalis, lobus parietalis, lobus occipitalis, limbic cortex, insula, amygdala and thalamus on the right side according to gender in patients with right hand preference (p<0.5). There is a significant difference between the measurements of the right side of the hemisphere, WM, lobus frontalis, lobus temporalis, lobus parietalis, lobus occipitalis, limbic cortex, insula, amygdala and thalamus. There is a significant difference between the measurements of the right side of the hemisphere, WM, lobus frontalis, lobus temporalis, lobus parietalis, lobus occipitalis, limbic cortex, insula and thalamus). It is thought that this study may take its place among the studies that will serve as the basis for interpreting the volumetric changes observed in some neurological diseases by questioning the relationship of motor skill preferences with serebral volumes.
