Abstract (EN)

Today, remote control with hand gestures is used in different ways in many systems to interact and control devices. Controlling the electrical tools and equipment we use in daily life with hand movements without contact provides a hygienic, fast and safe interaction for personal and public use. The methods used in detecting and perceiving hand movements are distinguished from each other with features such as efficiency, economy, security and the facilities it provides. Since most of the devices used in the kitchen are inexpensive, the system to be developed for detecting hand movements should also be economical. Because, more expensive computers and systems containing cameras are used to recognize hand movements. In this study, a low-cost system has been developed in order to control the aspirators, which are one of the electrical kitchen appliances, without contact. The system performs the on/off control of the aspirator, motor speed control and lighting control by hand movements. Motor speed control and open/close functions are performed by hand movements to the right and left, while the light on and off process is provided by the up and down movement of the hand. In the selection of the elements and components to be used in the design of the electronic circuit, care was taken to be economical. Hand gestures recognition algorithm (phase-based motion detection algorithm) in the system is carried out with the help of software running on Arduino Nano. One IR light sensor and three IR LED light sources are used in the system to detect hand movements. First, the hand gestures recognition system was designed on the breadboard, and then transferred to PCB. The tests of the system were carried out using an aspirator and the accuracy was 95% in left-to-right movement, 96% in right-to-left movement, and 98% in bottom-up movement. The designed hand recognition system is planned to be marketed to aspirator manufacturers.
