Abstract (EN)
This study examines the economic structure, cost components, profitability levels, and major challenges faced by barley-producing agricultural enterprises. Data were collected through surveys conducted with barley producers operating in Elazig province and its surroundings. The analysis revealed that the average gross production value per decare was calculated as 1906.33 ₺. Total production costs amounted to 1807.38 ₺/da, of which 68.86% were variable costs and 31.14% were fixed costs. The relative profit coefficient was found to be 1.05, indicating that producers operate at a marginal level of profitability. Comparisons with the international literature showed that profitability levels in Turkey are below those of many other countries, with input costs and price instability posing significant risks to production sustainability. The study concludes with policy recommendations focusing on reducing input costs, increasing productivity, and strengthening marketing channels.
