Özet (EN)

Energy is one of the most important factors affecting the welfare level of the society and the development of countries. The continuity of electrical energy supply to customers at desired level, by taking into account the economic conditions and environmental effects, with high service, restoration times and power quality, is one of the most important inputs of socio-economic development. There are power losses in different levels of electric power systems. These power losses can be categorized into three parts as generation system, transmission system and distribution system losses. In Turkey, the ratio of internal consumption of power generation stations and utilities was 4,7%, the losses originated from transmission system were 1,7% and the losses of power distribution systems 10,2% in 2018. The losses originated from electric power distribution system are the highest in Turkey. In 2017, the losses of transmission and distribution systems were totally 8,3% in the World. In this thesis, in order to reduce power losses in the existing power distribution network, a residential area has been chosen to implement different power distribution network plans with different number of distribution transformers using underground cables. The load profiles of the customers have been estimated using recordings of electric metering. By calculating the power losses of different projected power distribution system layouts, the ratio of power losses for every single power distribution system layout was examined. Moreover, projects were analyzed for their power losses and investment costs.
