The aim of this study is remote reading of the information recorded by a digitalmeter by using the optical port of the meter and RS485 serial communication portwith the intervention of GPRS modem. In this study, the details of AutomaticalMeter Reading technology, about which there is a little known and in whichdevelopments are experienced very fast, the positive and negative sides of thistechnology, preparation studies and the probable applications in our country isexamined, a general aspect is constituted and a sample model is developed.The remote meter reading system proposed in this study is a system which isdeveloped with reference of Automatic Meter Reading system which is developedas a sample of international network system. The proposing system is a flexibleand expansible one. With the assistance of the system the procedure of thesubscribers can be done automatically by remote central control unit.As a result, the remote meter reading process by using GPRS modem is donesuccessfully and the importance and advantages of the study are stated.
