Analysis of performance on different electrical loads and fuels in an electric diesel engine generator

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the performance, specific fuel consumption, effective efficiency and exhaust emission of diesel fuel, biodiesel and bioethanol and similar alternative fuels in a diesel engine generator were tested in a generator loaded with three separate electrical loads. Alternative diesel fuels with almost the same oxygen content were obtained by adding biodiesel and bioethanol to the petroleum-derived diesel fuel at the rate of 30% and 10% by volume. These alternative fuels and diesel fuel, which is a petroleum derivative, were tested by keeping all conditions equal in multiple decision-making methods and waiting for one day at room temperature. In addition, these fuels were tested on a 4-cylinder and 4-stroke naturally aspirated generator set. According to the results obtained in the experiment, an increase of approximately 10.5% in the specific fuel consumption of biodiesel fuel was observed in alternative fuel consumption. No significant change was observed in the effective yield. It has been determined that the specific fuel consumption of alcohol blended alternative fuels is 9%-11% lower than diesel fuel. Effective efficiency increased by 6%. While HC emission was 3.6 kW at most, E10 was 10.2 kW diesel fuel. NOx emission, on the other hand, was 3.6 kW diesel fuel, although there was not much difference, it was 10.2 kW B30. In alternative fuels, the maximum cylinder gas pressure was higher when compared to diesel fuel. It has been observed that the combustion of alcohol blended alternative fuels starts later when compared to diesel fuel, while biodiesel blended fuels start earlier. Engine results, performance, combustion and exhaust emissions should be considered as a whole in engine tests where the applicability of alternative fuels is investigated. It is difficult to determine the optimal parameters due to the large number of results obtained in multivariate experiments. Multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) is preferred in solving problems such as energy management and energy efficiency. This thesis considers an application of a new hybrid MCDM method to select the optimum fuel for compression ignition. In the engine test, it was tested at 3.6 kW, 7 kW and 10.2 kW loads. The results were used in the MCDM process. In this study, SWARA and ARAS hybrid model was preferred.
