Investigation of mechanical properties of electroless nickel boron coated steels joined by electrode arc welding

Abstract (EN)

In this research, electroless nickel – boron (Ni-B) plating method was applied to St37 and St52 steels, which are widely used in many industrial applications, and after the surface coating process, welding was performed with basic and rutile electrodes at different welding amperage values. It is aimed to compare the mechanical properties and morphological changes of the internal structure obtained by scientific experiments with the data obtained from the same processes applied to uncoated St37 and St52 steels. For this purpose; 24 pieces of St37 and St52 steels with dimensions of 100x50x5 mm, 12 pieces each, were coated with electroless nickel boron coating method. Then, using 2 types of electrodes, basic and rutile electrodes in TS EN ISO 2560-A class, electric arc welding was performed at welding amperages of 100A - 120A - 145A for basic electrode and 90A - 110A - 140A for rutile electrode, with the same type of steels face to face without opening the welding gap. The microhardness, microstructure, XRD and tensile test results of the welded Nİ-B coated materials were obtained and compared and evaluated with the results of uncoated normal welded materials.
