Abstract (EN)

It is important to train sportsmen in the ice hockey branch, who gain personality, who knows what they want, as necessary in every stage of life, and who is making the right planning in this way. It is usual for an individual to encounter a number of problems in every stage throughout their lives. It is inevitable for human-being to continue living by solving the problems with the intelligence and skill abilities that God has offered. The quality and quantity of the decisions vary according to the developmental stage of the individual, the circumstances that need to be decided and the characteristics of the options. We need to understand the concept of self-respect in order to adapt to the changes. The concept of self-esteem is a learned life and continues throughout one's life. For this reason, it is very important for people to acquire personality, to spend their lives better, to have ideal and permanent communication with other individuals, to supply high-level reconciliation for the development of value models, success and planning the right time for the future. This study was conducted to examine the self-esteem and decision-making levels of elite ice hockey athletes. This study, which attempts to examine self-esteem and the decision-making level of Elite ice hockey athletes, consists of the sportsmen of the 8 teams in Men's Super League and sportswomen of the 6 teams in Women's Super League of the Ice Hockey Federation, Turkey. The study samples are 148 male and 48 female athletes from Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Kocaeli and Erzurum, Turkey. While the personal information form developed by the researcher and the 'Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale' developed by Rosenberg (1963) and used by Çuhadaroğlu (1986) were used to determine the level of the self-esteem of the participants, 'Melbourne Decision Making Scale', the original of which has been developed by Mann et. al.(1998), and adapted to Turkish and developed by validity and reliability by Deniz (2004) was used to determine the styles of decision making of the samples. In evaluating the data, the methodologies of frequency, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, One Way ANOVA analysis for scales were used. According to the results of the findings of the research, no significant difference was found between variables and sub-dimensions when the relationship between the demographic information of participants participating in the research and the level of Self-esteem and Decision-making were examined. When the genders of the participating athletes were examined, it was found that the male athletes were the majority and the participation rate was found to be 37.2% and the ages, between 22-24 years. Considering the educational status of the athletes participating in the study, the educational levels were found to be quite high. It was determined that the sportsmen and sportswomen in sample groups were largely pursuing Ice Hockey as their main branch. In connection with the results of the study, it can be suggested that more extensive studies can be applied to those sportsmen and sportswomen who especially deal with team sports.
