The relationship between task and ego orientation and success motivation in tennis sports

Abstract (EN)

Present study aimed to investiagte the relationship between task and ego orientation and success motivation in tennis athletes. A total of 253 tennis athletes, of which 103 female and 150 male in the age group of 8 and over participated in the study. "Task and Ego Orientation in Sports Scale" was performed to determine the task and ego orientations of the tennis athletes participating in the study, Sports-Specific Success Motivation Scale by Willis was used in the determination of success motivation. Independent t test, One Way ANOVA and correlation analysis in SPSS 22.0 data analysis program were used in statistical analysis of the data gathered in the study. At the end of the study, it was found that there was no statistically significant difference in the task and ego orientations of the athletes according to variables of gender and sporting year (p>0.05), on the other hand, the athletes' task and ego orientations showed statistically significant differences according to age groups and education levels (p<.0.05). Besides, there was a statistically significant difference between success motivations of the athletes according to gender, age group and sporting years (p <0.05), otherwise, success motivation did not show statistically significant difference according to variable of the educational level (p> 0.05). When evaluated according to correlation between variables, it was found that there was a statistically significant correlation between task and ego orientation and success motivation of tennis athletes participating in the study (p <0.05). Besides, success motivation in tennis athletes influenced the ego and task orientation significantly (p<0.05). As a result, it can be said that there are some differences according to demographic variables in task and ego orientation and success motivation, there is a significant relationship between task and ego orientation and success motivation in the tennis athletes and success motivation influences ego and task orientation.
