Examination of the relationship between the ruminating thoughts of elite athletes and their psychological needs in sports

Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between elite athletes' ruminative thoughts and psychological needs in sports depending on various parameters. In this context, the universe of the study consisted of licensed athletes who actively participated in their competitions in 2024, while the sample group consisted of athletes determined from the universe by the convenience sampling method. Three separate forms were directed to this sample group in order to collect data. These are; Personal Information Form, Sports Competition Rumination Scale and Sports Psychological Need Scale. The data obtained through all these forms were analyzed in SPSS (26th version) software. At this stage, in addition to descriptive statistics, t-test were used to determine the differences between the groups from parametric tests, while Pearson correlation were applied from relationship tests. As a result of the tests conducted through the relevant tests, significant results were reached depending on various parameters. Keywords: Sport, rumination, psychological need.
