Abstract (EN)
"Al-Walid II" (h. 125-126/g. 743-744 ), or al-Walid b. Yazid, was the eleventh caliph of the Umayyad state. The vast majority of sources narrate numerous stories about him as a sinful, immoral person, a lover of entertainment and liquor. Al-Walid II, who was tried to be deposed from the crown prince by his uncle Hishām b. Abd al-Malik (Ḥishām b. Abd al-Malik (h. 105-125/g. 724-743)) due to this character and lifestyle, adopted a lifestyle similar to that of during his heirship after he became caliph This situation started to draw a great reaction from the people in time. When his wrong political decisions and his harsh attitude towards some members of his family were added to the public reaction, a rebellion movement led by his uncle's son Yazid b. al-Walid (Yazid III, h. 126 / April 744 - October 744) was launched against him and he was killed as a result of this movement. This study concludes that al-Walid II was an hovar, nonchalant, flighty, fun-loving person who was often not interested to the affairs of state and lived a life of debauchery. It is also concluded that al-Walid II was aware that what he was doing was not the right thing to do, but despite this, he was often unable to restrain himself due to his lack of self-control. In the case of al-Walid II's assassination, it was seen that many reasons and factors were effective rather than a single reason or factor. In addition, the idea that the assassination of al-Walid II was one of the most important events that prepared or accelerated the collapse of the Umayyad state has been obtained. This study is important both because there is no doctoral or master's thesis that deals specifically with al-Walid II, and because it offers original and profound analyses of al-Walid II's character and the reasons for his assassination. The aim of this study is to fill thesis level gap in the literature at the.
