A survey of approaches to emergency endodontic treatment among endodontists and dentists in Turkey

A survey study conducted in Turkey on the emergency endodontic treatment approaches of endodontists and general practitioner dentists. In this study, a questionnaire was conducted to analyze the differences between endodontists and general practitioner dentists and see if /how their choices in treating emergency endodontic treatments differ. The study aims to examine the correlation between the average number of patients treated per day in different institutions and the clinical experience of those practitioners and if /how this makes a difference in the procedures followed on emergency endodontic treatment. The survey was prepared via Google Forms. It was delivered to the endodontists and general practitioner dentists via e-mail and their social media channels, including endodontists registered to the Turkish Endodontic Association. In this study, statistical analyzes were performed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 23.0 package program. In addition to the descriptive statistical methods (frequency distributions, percentage distributions) in the evaluation of the data, the chi-square test was used in the comparison of qualitative data. The results were evaluated at the significance value p <0.05. A total of 463 practitioners participated in this survey, out of which 287 were general practitioner dentists, and 176 were endodontists. The results of our study provide insights into the deficiencies identified on treating emergency endodontic treatment in Turkey, by evaluating and analyzing the treatment practises of endodontists and general practitioner dentists.
