Abstract (EN)

Endometriosis is a chronic disease characterized by the abnormal shed of endometrial stem cells during menstruation, which can lead to ectopic implants and infertility. The endometrium contains several stem cell populations, which play a crucial role in endometrial physiology, regeneration, and repair. Recent studies suggest that endometriosis may result from dislocated or aberrant stem cells from the endometrium or exogenous sources such as bone marrow. Bone marrow-derived stem cells have been shown to engraft eutopic endometrium and ectopic endometriotic lesions, taking on an endometrial phenotype. These cells migrate, seeding new lesions and improperly incorporating into the eutopic endometrium, contributing to infertility. Some stem cells remain as multipotent stem cells in the endometrium with similar properties as those existing in bone marrow. These cells can give rise to chondrocytes, neurons, and insulin-producing cells, which can be useful in treating Parkinson's disease or diabetes. Human endometrium-derived stem cells (EDSCs) have been differentiated into insulin-producing cells and dopamine-producing neuron-like cells, which have shown potential in regenerative medicine. Our study focusing on eMSCs has primarily focused on cell surface markers and in vitro tests of multipotency and clonogenicity. The aim is to identify cell surface markers to diagnose and determine the future course of endometriosis. The study aims to analyze the differentiation potential of endometrial mesenchymal stem cells into cells found in endometriosis lesions, with future therapeutics potentially utilizing specific markers within pathways that regulate the growth and invasion of endometriotic lesions.
