The importance of inflammation indices and their relationship with prognosis in endometrium cancer

Objective: In recent studies, inflammation indices calculated using platelet, neutrophil, and lymphocyte counts have emerged as prognostic indicators in cancer patients. The aim of this study is to explore the prognostic significance of systemic inflammation indices in endometrial cancer. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology Clinic, Turgut Özal Medical Center, İnönü University, and included 166 patients who underwent surgery for a diagnosis of endometrial cancer between January 2014 and December 2023. The patients were aged between 35 and 75 years. General patient information, medical records, and preoperative peripheral blood values were reviewed, and SII and PIV values were calculated. Statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS version 25.0, with a p-value of <0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: The impact of preoperative peripheral blood-derived SII and PIV values on recurrence, lymph node metastasis, stage, progression-free survival, and 5-year overall survival was examined; however, no statistically significant associations were found. Significant changes were observed only for the SII (p=0.024) and PIV (p=0.045) in Grade II patients. Conclusion: In our study, significant changes were found only in the SII and PIV values for Grade II patients. Since 73.5% of the patients included in the study were Stage 1 (122 patients), it is suggested that further detailed studies should be conducted and examined in patients with advanced stages of endometrial cancer.
