Abstract (EN)
Since the second half of the 19th century, Adana has been associated with agricultural and industrial activities. Today, industrial buildings and areas, which are the physical elements of industrial activities, are gradually decreasing and accordingly, an important historical and spatial layer is disappearing. The disappearance of the historical and spatial layers of the city leads to the loss of that urban identity. Based on this case, within the scope of the thesis, it is aimed to define the historical industrial buildings in Adana, an industrial city, as a component of Adana's urban identity and to contribute to the sustainability of the industrial heritage. In accordance with this purpose, a method proposal is presented in order to identify the industrial heritage of the city, to reveal its importance, to ensure its sustainability by integrating it with international networks, and to carry it into the city to the future as an important cultural heritage and identity component. The industrial facilities examined within the scope of the thesis consist of the factories established from 1864, when the first factory in the city of Adana was established, until 1977, when the OSB was established, and the railway structures located on the Adana-Mersin Railway line, which is connected to the Baghdad Railway. In the light of international examples examined in order to deal with these structures in a holistic conservation approach, an industrial heritage route has been prepared for the city of Adana and the buildings evaluated within the scope of industrial heritage are included in this route.
