Abstract (EN)
21st century technological developments cause Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to be frequently mentioned in the field of design. In the field of design, designers exhibit various attitudes towards the inclusion of artificial intelligence in design and education processes. In this thesis, the effect of AI and its tools on the process within the scope of project courses in industrial design education is discussed. The studies on industrial design education were examined from the literature and the place and importance of artificial intelligence in design education were mentioned. In the research process, the opinions of academicians working in universities providing industrial design education were consulted. In this context, AI tools will be examined in eight basic stages of the design process: problem definition, idea development, visualization of ideas, model and prototype construction, testing, comparison of different ideas, preparation of project presentation and realization of the selected idea. The study consists of two stages: a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. In the first part, the aim is to determine the attitudes and concerns of academics on the use of AI. In the second stage, the aim was to determine the way academicians use AI in design education and design process. The data collected within the scope of the research were analysed separately. The data pointed to three main themes: design education, design process and ethics. Based on the findings, recommendations for the use of AI in design education and design process were developed.
