Evaluation of healing process in infected ischemic wound rats that are threated with L. plantarum

Abstract (EN)

Aim; This study aims to evaluate the effects of morphological, microbiological, histopathological and molecular wound healing effects by applying L. plantarum to the wound sites for 21 days in rats with ischemic and infected ischemic wound models. Method; Experimental type research was conducted with adult male rats. Experimental groups were made two main groups. These are ischemic wound and infected ischemic wound groups. Ischemic wound group consisted of control, L. plantarum treated group and the antibiotic treated groups. Infected ischemic wound group consisted of control, L. plantarum treated group and antibiotic treated groups. Photographs of wound areas were taken on days 1,3,5,7,14 and 21 in all groups, and tissue samples taken after sacrificing 3 animals were analyzed microbiologically, histopathologically and molecularly. Wound size measurements were performed using the images of the wound areas taken using the image j program. Results: Wound size was significantly smaller in L. plantarum applied groups compared to other groups. In microbiological evaluations, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. Histopathological evaluation was evaluated over 3 main stages: inflammation, proliferation and remodelling. In the analyzes performed, it was observed that there were statistically significant differences in angiogenesis and granulation in the proliferation stage, and in fibrosis and collagen evaluations in the remodelling stage. In the evaluation of IL-1 level, it was observed that it was the lowest in the I2 group, which was administered L. plantarum until the 7th day. Significant differences were observed in IL-8 levels on days 1.5, 7 and 14, and it was observed that the significant difference was due to the lower expression level of the group in which L. plantarum was used. Conclusion: The effects of using L. plantarum on wound healing in rats treated with ischemic and infected ischemic wound models were demonstrated by morphological, microbiological, histopathological and molecular analyzes.
