Investigation of the relationship between psychological well-being and burnout levels of parents with a disabled child

This study, which examines the relationship between psychological well-being and burnout levels of parents with disabled children, was designed according to a quantitative design. The research was conducted with 169 parents with disabled children residing in Trabzon city center and Akçaabat, Arsin and Araklı districts. Personal Information Form, Psychological Well-being Scale (Telef, 2013) and Burnout Scale (Çapri, 2006) were used in the study, and the research data were analyzed in the IBM SPSS Statistics Subscription package program. The differentiation status of the scale expressions according to the variables in the Personal Information Form was analyzed by independent groups t-test and two-way ANOVA. Independent sample t-test was used for variables with two options, and two-way ANOVA test was used for sequential variables. Regression analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between psychological well-being scale and burnout scale sub-dimensions. The Cronbach's Alpha value of the single factor 8-item psychological well-being scale used in the study was calculated as .85. In addition, the three-factor and 18-item burnout scale Cronbach's Alpha values were calculated as Affective Factor .88, Extroverted Factor .71 and Bodily Factor, respectively. A significant difference was found between the financial support received from any public institution and the psychological well-being of the parents, and between the diagnosis of disability and the type of disability and the psychological well-being of the parents. As a result of the regression analysis, it was concluded that it is possible to explain the psychological well-being level of the parents with at least one of the sub-dimensions of the burnout scale. It is thought that the data and results obtained from this study will contribute to the professionals and researchers working in the field of social work.
