Social exclusion of the disabled: Araklı example

People with disabilities have various problems within the social structure. One of these problems is social exclusion. Social exclusion is a problem that removes the disabled person from the society, deprives them of civil, social and political rights and causes the disconnection of the person from the environment. In this study, the relationships between the social exclusion levels of the disabled and the demographic data obtained from the participants were examined. The study was carried out with the participation of 324 disabled individuals in different age groups receiving disability pension or cash assistance from Trabzon Araklı Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation. In this context, the demographic information (gender, marital status, age groups, place of residence, level of education and socioeconomic level) prepared by the researcher and The 35-item s Social Exclusion Scale yapılan, which was developed by Jehoel-Gijsbers and Vrooman (2007) and validated for Turkish validity and reliability by Bayram et al. (2010), was used. Scale; material deprivation consists of four dimensions: benefiting from institutions and assistance, suitable home and safe environment, social inclusion and cultural integration. According to gender variable, in all sub-dimensions; in the age groups, social inclusion and cultural integration; according to the marital status variable, material deprivation, benefiting from institutions and benefits, social participation dimensions; based on the place of residence, benefit from institutions and assistance and social inclusion; according to the educational variable, appropriate home and safe environment and social participation dimensions According to the socioeconomic situation, material deprivation, benefiting from institutions and assistance, appropriate home and safe environment, cultural integration dimensions it was found that the levels of social exclusion differed significantly.
