Satisfaction survey on accessibility of persons with disabilities: The case of Kocaeli province

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the satisfaction status of disabled people living in Kocaeli in terms of accessibility. Accessibility of people with disabilities is an important predictor of quality of life and participation in life. The model of this research is screening. Stratified sampling model was used in the sample selection method. The participant group of the study is 153 people with disabilities who benefit from services for disabled people registered in Cemil Meriç Barrier-Free Life Center of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and visually impaired members of Kocaeli Branch of Six Dots Blind Association. 95% confidence interval and .05% error margin were taken as the reference in the calculation of sample size and statistical significance. The research was conducted between June-2016 and June-2019 and the implementation part was carried out between March-2019 and May-2019. Sociodemographic form and disability accessibility satisfaction scale were used as a measurement tool. In this study, which was applied by face to face questionnaire, the data were analyzed with CPA SPSS 23rd package program. Before the analysis of the study, the distribution of the data was checked and independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance were used. Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between the two variables As a result of these analyzes, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the sex groups in terms of accessibility satisfaction and it was found that female participants had higher accessibility satisfaction than male participants. According to the results of the analysis in the marital status groups, there is no statistically significant difference between the groups. As a result of one-way analysis of variance, it was found that there was a significant difference between age groups. It was found that disabled people in the 26-35 age range had higher accessibility satisfaction levels than disabled people in the 12-25 age group. In the correlation analysis, a positive significant relationship was found between accessibility satisfaction and income level.
